Becky G recently released her newest single, «EPA,» which is likely to become one of the top songs of the summer. The bilingual dance track blends elements of electronic music and música urbana. But even more powerful than the track itself is the music video, which feels like a visual love letter to Mexican culture.

Directed by Dominican filmmaker Oliva De Campos and filmed at El Mercadito, the video is set in an everyday L.A. neighborhood that transforms into a massive dance party celebrating Mexican culture and community. Everything about the visuals feels rooted in barrio culture, but in a way that feels intentional and organic.

There’s even a surprise appearance from drag queen Valentina that feels meaningful in its subtle expansion of who gets to participate in and represent Mexican culture.

Toward the end of the video, there’s an even more powerful visual of Becky slamming a giant block of ice, which reads as a symbolic protest against anti-immigration rhetoric and ICE. The deeper message behind it all feels like an artful celebration of joy and community as forms of resistance at a time when Latines in America continue to feel under attack.
