Greg Mattson has been named chief of the Operations Division for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Little Rock District.

Mattson replaces Chris Roark, who retired from federal service. Mattson will oversee management, operation, maintenance and repair of the district’s civil works projects across all five USACE primary business lines.

Mattson brings more than two decades of USACE experience, having served the Little Rock District continuously since joining as a Department of the Army intern in 2003. Most recently he served as deputy chief of operations, where he supervised the district’s operations program managers and led efforts to prioritize unfunded maintenance needs across the district’s projects.

Previously he served as chief of the Engineering Services Section in the Design Branch, where he supervised cost engineering teams responsible for developing budget estimates and independent government estimates for construction and service contracts. He also served as chief of the Infrastructure Safety Section, overseeing the district’s dam, levee and bridge safety programs and managing a $2.6 million annual operations and maintenance budget.

The Little Rock District’s mission includes military and civil works projects. The district operates 12 multipurpose lakes, 13 locks and dams, 308 miles of navigation on the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System, 138 parks and seven hydroelectric plants.
