Leloir House in Parque Leloir, Buenos Aires, Argentina
The Leloir House project is located in Parque Leloir, a residential enclave in the western suburbs of Buenos Aires characterized by its dense tree cover, winding streets, and low-density urban scale. Unlike the surrounding neighborhood, the site lacked significant existing tree cover. This characteristic guided the project toward an open architectural approach, designed to be complemented by a comprehensive landscaping plan.

The Material and Formal Approach
Exposed concrete was chosen as the primary material, seeking a formal synthesis that would allow for large openings without intermediate supports. This structural decision not only reflects an ethic of material honesty but also ensures uninterrupted visual continuity. The concrete acts as a timeless frame that captures and highlights nature, blurring the boundary between the built shelter and the outdoors.

The Project: Privacy and Connection
The commission presented the challenge of designing a home that could accommodate the lively social life of a family with three teenage children, while ensuring each family member's independence. With this in mind, the design is primarily laid out on the ground floor, ensuring that all living spaces have direct access to the gardens.

The layout is organized into two wings that wrap around the site, separating the social area from the children's private quarters through varying levels and green courtyards.

Pathways and Spatiality
The entrance is located in a narrow section of the lot and is accessed through a gateway. A lightweight concrete structure defines the parking area, the point from which the walkway splits: a pedestrian path that runs through gardens and a pond toward the main entrance, and a vehicle ramp leading to the service entrance.

The main entrance, highlighted by a pergola and a garden, leads into the social area. The living room opens simultaneously onto the front gardens through a concrete pergola that filters the light and onto a rear gallery with views of the pool and the landscaped grounds. On the left side is the staircase leading to the upper floor and the children's wing, organized into three bedrooms with private bathrooms.

On the opposite side, via a three-step drop that offers an elevated view of the pool and grounds, the rest of the layout unfolds: an office, a main dining room with its own extension, and a kitchen with an integrated bar and connection to the service entrance. The kitchen is physically connected to the barbecue area through a series of pergolas that organize the outdoor space.

This circulation system culminates in the ascent to the main suite. Located on the upper floor as a separate prism, this level is configured as a volume with a fully glazed facade, shielded from public view by an elevated garden that acts as a visual buffer. In contrast, its west facade is designed as a solid, thermally insulated wall clad in wood, reinforcing its character as a secluded and private refuge.

A Symbiosis of Architecture and Landscape
In this project, architecture and the designed landscape merge. The project is not conceived as a standalone entity, but rather as a system of interactions where vegetation is not merely ornamental, but a structural element that helps shape the living environment. The pergolas, elevated gardens, and water features interact with the solidity of the concrete, ensuring that the housing is made complete and meaningful only through its intimate relationship with the created environment.
