ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Atlanta leaders have unveiled a new $500,000 cultural hub aimed at showcasing the city to a global audience during the FIFA World Cup.

The ATL Culture House, set to open during the monthlong tournament, will highlight the city's performing arts, music and film scene while welcoming visitors from around the world.

The venue will be located inside the Center in downtown Atlanta, occupying a 23,000-square-foot space with a capacity of 2,000.

City officials said the event will be free and open to the public, giving residents and tourists an opportunity to experience Atlanta's diverse cultural offerings.

The Culture House will not operate daily. Instead, it will open the day before each of the eight matches set to be played in Atlanta.

Organizers said interest in participating has been strong, with more than 400 applicants submitting proposals to showcase different aspects of Atlanta's culture. Selected performers and artists will represent a broad range of communities across the city.

Mayor Andre Dickens said the initiative is designed to elevate Atlanta's global profile and drive long-term benefits.

“People around the world are going to say I've got to get to Atlanta because it looks fun and the people look vibrant,†Dickens said. “This is going to reap benefits for business attraction, for tourism, for arts exchange, for culture exchange, for people-to-people exchange, so all of this is going to produce dividends.â€

Dickens added that the investment extends beyond economics.

“Oh it's a huge return on investment that will help, I'm sure from a dollar-to-dollar perspective, but also the cultural idea of Atlanta is going to be on display across the world,†he said.

City leaders say the ATL Culture House is part of a broader effort to position Atlanta as a cultural destination as it prepares to host one of the world's largest sporting events. Final selections for performers and exhibits are expected to be announced in the coming months.
