Louisville is weeks away from the Kentucky Derby, and the Kentucky Derby Festival is bringing back a celebratory tradition. At the same time, musicians, artists and horticulturists are hosting events around town and embracing the warm spring weather.
Here are some things to do around Louisville.
PlantFest
Since early last year, the PlantFest Expo has appeared in multiple cities across the country. On Saturday, April 18 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., PlantFest comes to the Kentucky Expo Center. Several local and national plant vendors will be selling their plant collections, and visitors can learn more about rare, exotic plants and general plant care.
Organizers say PlantFest is for beginner and expert plant growers.
Thunder Over Louisville
After Louisville's legendary fireworks show was canceled last year due to weather conditions, the Kentucky Derby Festival is preparing to bring back Thunder Over Louisville.
The festivities begin Saturday, April 18 with the airshow at 3 p.m. and ending with the fireworks show at 9:30 p.m.
Bridge closures are scheduled to begin on Thursday, and LMPD has listed other traffic closures online.
Waterfront Wednesday
91.9 WFPK's annual free concert series Waterfront Wednesday returns on April 22 at 6:30 p.m. at Waterfront Park.
The first show will have performances by Deep Blue Something and Small Time Napoleon.
Jazz in Bloom
As blooms emerge around Louisville, several events are springing up at Joe Creason Park.
On Wednesday, April 22 at 6 p.m., the Bellarmine University Jazz Faculty Quintet will perform tunes for Jazz in Bloom at the park.
Local food trucks will also stick around for the event.
Lil Guy Swap
If you're looking for a new home for all your small trinkets, Barret Babes is hosting a Lil Guy Swap on Sunday, April 26 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Hinterhof Micro-Roasters
Participants are asked to bring some trinkets to trade with others. There will be drink specials and food from Traveling Kitchen.
