Caldwell University Students and Faculty Attend New Jersey Academy of Science Annual Meeting – Caldwell University

Caldwell, NJ – Several Caldwell University students and faculty members attended the New Jersey Academy of Sciences (NJAS) Senior Program Annual Meeting on April 11, 2026, and multiple students won awards for their presentations.

Marina Botros and Jakub Sobura-Durma received first place in Health/Medicine for their presentation, “Can TET1 Restoration in Glioblastoma Restore Tumor Suppression?†in collaboration with Dr. Lorelei Pratt. Kamil Nogajczyk, Haleigh Fisher and Anahi Cabrera Castro received first place in Cell/Molecular Biology for their presentation, “Identifying Nociceptive VS Non-Nociceptive Strains of C. Elegans to Evaluate Adaptations That Occur Across Generations,†in collaboration with Dr. Maria Agapito.

Bivash Pandit, Diyar Ertas and Tariro Tasanangurwa received second place in Life Science for their presentation, “Chemosensory Discrimination of Synthetic Urine Biomarkers in Caenorhabditis Elegans: Differential Behavioral Responses in Wild-Type and Insulin/IGF-1 Signaling Pathway Mutants,†in collaboration with Maria Agapito. Nika Kudirka received third place in Health/Medicine for their presentation, “Evaluating The Anti-Diabetic Potential of Aloe-Emodin Via Lipid Modulation in Caenorhabditis Elegans,†in collaboration with Dr. Maria Agapito.

Caldwell University was very well represented at the NJAS 71st Annual Meeting. Faculty members, Dr. Maria Agapito, Dr. Hector Loyola Irizarry and Dr. Yanxing Yang, served as organizers for this event. Other faculty members acted as panelists and judges, and many Caldwell University students acted as presenters, judges and volunteers.
